Smooth Arrival at Bali’s Ngurah Rai Airport: Your Friendly Guide for a Hassle-Free Landing

Start Here: What You
Should Do First

Recommendation: Apply for an e-Visa before your trip! (Visa valid for 30 days)
Skip the long lines and breeze through immigration by applying in advance. The fastest way into Bali is by registering for a Visa on Arrival (VOA) online via Indonesia’s official immigration portal:
 https://evisa.imigrasi.go.id/

Once you apply and receive approval, you’ll get a QR code or reference number (please check the latest update on usage—some travelers report scanning, others show QR or confirmation code at the counter). This lets you use the automated immigration gates designed specifically for e-visa holders, bypassing the standard VOA counter.

What Happens After You Land in Bali?

Once you disembark from the plane, follow the clearly marked signs in English. Everything is well-organized, and signs will guide you toward immigration, baggage claim, and customs. Here’s what you’ll encounter:

Immigration (With or Without E-Visa)

If you already have your e-Visa, head directly to the automated immigration gates. These are typically located near the standard immigration counters. Show your passport and your e-Visa confirmation (QR or reference number) and proceed.

If you haven’t applied in advance, you’ll need to purchase a Visa on Arrival (VOA) at the designated counters. The fee is 500,000 IDR (~$30 USD) and is payable via credit card or cash.

During peak travel times (evenings and weekends), queues at VOA counters can get long. That’s why we strongly recommend getting the e-visa before flying.

Tourist Tax (Love Bali Tax)

Starting in 2024, the Bali government has implemented a tourist tax of 150,000 IDR (~$10 USD) per person to help protect the island’s environment and culture.

Where to pay?  https://www.love-bali.org/en/

  • You must pay this online before arrival.
  • The tax is valid for 60 days per entry.
  • Once paid, you’ll get a receipt via SMS and email, which must be shown upon arrival.

Health Declaration (e-HAC)

Although not always required, it’s still good practice to fill out the Health Alert Card (e-HAC) online before arrival. You’ll receive a QR code which may be scanned after immigration at the health check station.

Baggage Claim

Follow signs to Baggage Claim. Your flight number will be listed on the screen above the carousel.

Pro Tips:

  • Keep your baggage tag/ticket handy.
  • Be patient—bags can take time, especially during high-traffic periods.
  • Stay aware of your belongings as multiple flights arrive around the same time.

Customs Declaration (Bea Cukai)

Before exiting the terminal, all travelers must show their Customs Declaration QR code (Bea Cukai). You can fill this form out online 2 days before the flight for faster processing.  https://ecd.beacukai.go.id/ .

Have the QR code ready on your phone—officials will scan it as you pass through customs.
